New executives added to InnovaCare Health team

InnovaCare Inc., is a leading health care provider in Puerto Rico which recently expanded its expert team by three members. InnovaCare operates the leading health plans in the country, such as MMM Healthcare, Inc., as well as PMC Medicare Choice, Inc. – the membership of which is more than two hundred thousand and has a network of more than 7,500 providers. It’s the only company which offers health care plans accredited by the NCQA and is devoted to managing care in a sustainable, innovative and cost-effective way, which takes advantage of the newest technologies available.

The CEO, Rick Shinto, M.D., has over twenty years of experience in the field and began working in Puerto Rico a decade ago. In the state of California he worked in several hospitals as Director and Chief Medical Officer, and has been widely published across many different medical journals. He’s a member of the CAPG (California Association of Physician Groups), as well as the PacifiCare Quality Improvement Committee and the Health Quality Improvement Council.

These include Penelope Kokkinides, Jonathan Meyers and Mike Sortino.

Penelope Kokkinides serves as the Chief Administrative Officer at InnovaCare, Inc. She has been working on building government health care programs like Medicare and Medicaid for over two decades. In particular, Kokkinides’ expertise is developing clinical programs, as well as management of health care operations.

She has a bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University where she studied biological sciences and classical languages, as well as two masters degrees. One from New York University in social work, and another from Columbia University where she studied public health on She also finished a post-master’s program where she specialized in alcohol and substance abuse.

Before this, he worked for New Jersey’s biggest carrier, Horizon BCBS, where he was the Director of Actuarial Services.

He also has experience in providing insights and advice as a consultant for companies like Johnson & Johnson and SEIU 1199, regarding health care benefits for retirees and employees.

Mike Sortino, who was working at Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co., Ltd., as the Controller, will now be InnovaCare’s Chief Accounting Officer. He’s also worked at HCC as the Chief Financial Officer and has more than two decades of experience in the field of insurance, and over five years in public accounting.
